Cruising Sails
Suffolk Sails cruising sails are made with you and the type of cruising you do as our primary focus. We want to give you the best performance, most durable and best value sail we can. We’ll recommend which cloth is the best suited for your purposes. All made in house using the highest quality materials we can find, every detail is taken to the highest possible standard.
Specifications
Performance, durability and value are our starting points. Using the latest production techniques to ensure the smoothest three – dimensional shape. Custom designed and shaped for its intended use, mast bend, rig type etc…
Available in a range of cloth types from medium firm to yarn tempered, we have a cloth that will suit you and your boat.
Seams
Are glued and sewn using multiple rows of stitching using thread that is U. V. and chafe / abrasion resistant to give the strongest possible seam.
Reinforcing
Layered reinforcing and strengthening patches are fitted at the head, clew, tack and reef points if fitted, to spread the primary loads.
Batten pockets
are constructed in two-ply to safeguard chafe on the sail (no part of the batten comes into direct contact with the sail) and give maximum durability.
Battens
Fibreglass battens are used with protective end caps to prevent wear. Tapered battens and Velcro batten pockets are standard on race and performance cruising sails.
Loose Footed
Our mainsails come loose footed as standard, this gives a much more controllable sail, making sail handling far easier. Just easing the outhaul will increase the depth and power in the lower third of your mainsail particularly useful when off wind reaching / running or in light winds.
Leech and Foot Lines
Leech and foot cords with cleat adjusters to eliminate flutter.
Hand Finished
All our sails are finished with stainless steel clew and tack rings; the headboard is strong aluminium reinforced with a stainless steel liner or webbing. The clew and leech reefs have a cleat adjuster.
